Distributed Computing

Distributed computing is the term used for a computation that occurs in a co-ordinated manner on more than one computer often on geographically distributed systems. The Internet has enabled the development of highly complex distributed computing systems. Some of the common terms that we see today like Cloud Computing, Service Oriented Archiecture (SOA), Web 2.0, Utility Computing and Grid Computing are all manifestations of what is essentially distributed computing. Therefore technology foundations for all of these various forms of distributed computing are surprisingly similar.
